Artist

Hello, I’m Michael Meneghetti, originally from Melbourne, Australia, and my family roots go back to rural Victoria. My Italian grandparents arrived in Australia after World War II. Growing up was a dance of Vegemite on toast and Saturday morning pizza from Nonna.

In the early 2000s, I jumped into art, studying Sculpture at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. I’ve always been experimenting with different art forms like performance, video, photography, drawing, you name it. I even started a video art gallery project in Melbourne that had a good run of four years.

I’ve worn many hats, including being an art teacher for kids in schools, local government setups, and not-for-profits. I love aiding the vibrant creativity of young people.

I’ve spent the last decade roaming Asia and Europe before settling in central Portugal. Here, I’ve set up a children’s art project in the name of freedom and play!

In my studio, I’m fascinated with how to turn beach plastics and driftwood from the local shore into new things. I dive into ideas about who we are, what it means to be a person, our roots, and how mainstream and local culture shapes us.

My journey isn’t an academic one, just me using art to survive and try to figure out the crazy twists and turns of life.
